Sioux Falls, SD (January 14, 2022) – At the start of its second century, EmBe continues its mission to empower women and families to enrich lives. As its signature program, Girls on the Run, gears up for another season, participants and volunteers are calling on their greater communities to join them this Spring.
Registration for the 2022 Spring season opened on January 10 at embe.org. To support a growing cohort of 1500 girls in Grades 3 to 5 who elect to run each season, the program needs 200 coaches throughout the state to bring social-emotional learning opportunities to help girls overcome the specific challenges they face.
“No girl should ever shrink on the sidelines,” said Allison Sinning, EmBe Youth Development Manager and Girls on the Run Council Director, “By inviting them to run with us, we’re also coaching girls to stand up for themselves and each other, to acknowledge their power, and to pursue their dreams with joy and confidence.”
Each season, Girls on the Run provides a transformational and fun curriculum that creatively uses running to teach life skills. Coaches do not need running experience, simply a passion to support and encourage girls to build confidence through accomplishments.
“Running is not super easy for me since my left hip and leg are abnormal,” said McKenna, a Girls on the Run participant from Spearfish, SD. “I’ve had surgery and it has helped some but there are days when it bothers me more than others. Sometimes those days may be Girls on the Run days, but I never give up. By going to Girls on the Run, I let myself know that I can do it if I believe in myself.”
Girls on the Run teams consist of 6-16 girls who meet twice a week after school. Teams will have four to six coaches to lead the girls for ten weeks. A minimum of two coaches attends each practice, allowing coaches to accommodate work and life schedules. All coaching materials and training are provided.
Visit embe.org/gotr to register a runner or to apply as a new coach. All coaches must apply by Monday, February 14.
